For me, it depends on the level of the update retcon and who else is in the game with me.

Like, as an example, if it's me playing Dave as liking Doritos and then a recent update revealed that he actually fucking hates them, I'd be all, "Well, he used to like Doritos, but spending several months on Casa Del Shitty Meteor eating them non-stop turned him off on them." Something simple like that.

If it's something more complicated, like...well, to abuse Dave again, if I was playing Dave and he couldn't get along with Kanaya in-game and then these updates rolled out, it would depend on stuff like canon points and whatever. But the way I look at it, for stuff like that, characters are irrevocably AU to some extent the second they step into the game anyway, so maybe a conversation that Dave had with Kanaya canonically didn't happen and things were altered and blah blah blah.

If it's something really complicated, like I'm playing...Roxy, this time, and had her in the same time zone as the other three when suddenly she's in the future, I guess it would depend. I might have it so that she was playing up having a normal life because nobody would believe her anyway, or so she thought. I might have it so that there was something wonky involving memories causing her to remember things incorrectly. I might ask if someone wants to do a mind control plot. Or I might just shrug and ask to have the AU label applied to her. Kind of depends on how I've been playing her, what game she's in, and what other variables are in play.
